The Super Eagles Soar against the Bafana Bafana in AFCON.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated their South African counterpart in an entertaining Quarter-final fixture. The Eagles came into the match on the back of a win against the Defending champions Cameroon while South Africa also had it good defeating the host and a team tipped to win the African Nations cup in Egypt. All was set for a classic showdown and it lived up to its billing with Nigeria taking the initiative by scoring first via a square ball by Iwobi to the path of the wonderkid Laliga sensation Samuel Chukwueze who tormented the South Africans all night. South Africa pulled one back with the help of VAR but the Eagles where not to be denied as they scored from a corner kick. William Ekong having the final say of the match. The Eagles move to the Semi-final with the victory and will be expecting either the Ivorians or Algerians in the Semi-final. Two more matches to the lifting the cup for the fourth time. Is it to early to believe? There is nothing impossible but there are two teams really strong still in it also, The Algerians who are the most in form team and the Senegalese who are star studded. Only time will tell but till then we will enjoy this victory.
We move to the business end of the Grand slam. The Crowd favorite, 15year old Coco Guaff already out of the Grand slam was beaten by Simona Halep, which means I will naturally switch my allegiance to the Queen of the Grand Slam and my homegirl Serena Williams. Can she finally break the record to become the undisputed queen with the highest number of Grand slams only two more games will tell?
In the Men’s category it is the semi-final, while it seems Djokovic gets the easier route (well that is what being number 1 can give you). Nadal and Federer will have to square off one more time to see who advances to the Final. I feel this plays nicely into the hands of Djokovic who would play first and have enough time to recover and also considering Nadal and Federer’s rivalry is always an intense one. Whoever wins between these two veterans might just be fatigued going into the finals. But who knows there might be upsets?
The hashtag Lampardout seems to be threading on twitter after Frank Lampard the head coach of Chelsea drew with a side that had semi professionals playing for them. Is this the work of detractors or are the fans turning on him already just after his first match, which is even a friendly. Only time will tell, as long as he gives us the 3points at the start of the season (when I mean us, I am talking of Manchester United) I will support him. Lol
