First and foremost I want to congratulate every youth out there who took it upon themselves to fight back the injustice befalling us in our very own economy, our country and place of birth. The #EndSARS did not start this weekend but was gradually building up steam, as we suffered torture, brutalization, violation of our rights by the men meant to protect us and we reached tipping point and the outcry was massive. It was so massive it turned to a wild fire and united by a tool as strong as social media we forced those in power to listen to us. Maybe they listened because 2019 is around the corner, we may not know, maybe it was because the outcry was becoming deafening and they remembered the strength in Unity the youth exhibited during the petrol price hike in Jonathan’s regime and did not want a repeat we may never know. But the good thing is the youths of Nigeria came out to speak with one voice and I was amazed and glad because I saw something so beautiful, I saw a generation gathering momentum and steadying themselves to take over, I saw hope for the future, I saw in it hope for Nigeria. It might be a small victory now, probably nothing might be done at the end of the day or the reforms being dished out by the Inspector General of Police might not last like many things in Nigeria, but a seed has been sown, a seed in our youths that anything is possible if we are united, anything is possible if we stay United, anything is possible if this set of informed and educated generation, when we put our differences aside and work for the betterment of our nation and ourselves. It is time and 2019 cannot come any sooner, it is time to do away with the misguided distractions of the likes of Kanu or the recycled old generation that have kept us regressing. It is time we lead and create a future for ourselves.
The Joy when comedians, musicians, actors, social media influencers and youths all over the country came out to lend a voice against the menace of most bad eggs in the Police force especially men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The voice so strong even those like Atiku had to join in. The IGP has come out to announce with immediate effect a training program organised by the Nigerian Police force (NPF) in collaboration with relevant stakeholders on core police duties, observant of human rights and handling, care and custody of suspects. In His #ReformSARS agenda he also said The federal Anti-Robbery squad (F-SARS) will now exist and operate in the state and zonal commands under the commissioner of Police at the force headquarters. Also a federal SARS commander of a rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and not below superintendent of Police (SP) will be in charge of FSARS in state and Zonal commands across the country. All commissioners of Police have been directed by the IGP to comply with this directive with IMMEDIATE EFFECT and warn their personnel not to pose as SARS operatives. The IGP X-squad has been mandated to go round the commands and police formations nationwide to ensure strict compliance and apprehend any erring police officer. There are different channels to report any violation of rights by SARS but in the past and present in the picture ABOVE.
We hope for the good of our nation this would be permanent and not a temporary measure. Congratulations Nigerian Youths, a small step for the youths, a giant leap for Nigeria. Remember together we can, together we will, together Nigeria will be great again. T21
